Memorial Book

On March 4th 2025,  Bill passed away at his home with his loving family by his side. Bill, aged 78 years, of Wilpshire, Blackburn, the dearly loved and loving husband of Ginny, much loved Dad of Julia and Pete, dear Father in law of Tom and Sarah, devoted Poppa of Thea, Zachary and Lucas.

Bill qualified as a Civil Engineer in his early twenties and spent much of his working life working for United Utilities. His role focused on the safety of reservoirs across the North West of England. He enjoyed his job and was well respected by his colleagues.

Bill’s main priority has always been his family life. He was devoted to his wife, Ginny and they enjoyed over 50 years of married life together. On the whole the two of them enjoyed the simple pleasures of life but they did also have many wonderful holidays together, including many cruises which Bill particularly enjoyed.

Bill was vey much a hands on father and grandfather and his children and grandchildren held him in the highest esteem.

Bill was his own man and although he had a quiet and gentle presence he had a dry sense of humour and a quick wit. He often had a twinkle in  his eye. He was extremely intelligent, widely read and was not afraid of challenging conventional, mainstream views.

In his spare time Bill also enjoyed walking in the countryside, listening to music – especially Jazz, doing crosswords and puzzles, and listening to radio dramas and informative programmes. He was not a great lover of television however he did enjoy watching sport, in particular football and rugby. His main hobby was DIY, he was extremely capable and enjoyed a challenge. He spent a lot of time renovating and decorating his home, and it was his pride and joy.

Bill was well loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

His funeral is to be held at Accrington Crematorium on Thursday, March 20th at 11:40am.

Family flowers only, please but donations are being gratefully received in Bill’s memory, on behalf of the East Lancashire Hospice. To make a donation please click the blue donate button at the bottom of this page. A donation box will also be available at the service.

I feel very privileged to say Bill has been a very dear friend for many years. I shall always hold dear the many memories of happy times we spent together. But I also will always be grateful for the help and support Bill gave us when there was sad times. He was a true friend. I shall miss Bill so very much. With deepest sympathy and much love to his beloved wife Ginny and all of the family.
