Obituary Notice

Peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home on Saturday 27th June 2026, Sam, aged 83 years, of Clayton le Moors. The much loved and devoted husband of Ann, loving stepdad of Julia, adored Papa of Dominik and his wife Rachel, and Evie. Sam also leaves behind much loved family in Mauritius.

Born and raised in Flacq, Mauritius, Sam moved to the UK in September 1970 to embark on a new career in nursing. His first position was at Brockhall Hospital before he later moved to Calderstones. With his kind and caring nature, Sam was a natural in his work and was highly respected by his colleagues and those in his care. It was during his years at Calderstones that he met the love of his life, Ann. On 9th November 1985 the couple were married, beginning a wonderful 40 years together. Sam loved to travel and, together with Ann, enjoyed many wonderful adventures exploring the world. This included many amazing trips to Mauritius to visit Sam’s family. In his younger years, Sam was a member of The Simla Band, taking the role of bass guitarist. He loved Cliff Richard and had seen him live on more than one occasion. At home, Sam loved to settle in his chair to watch his favourite TV shows, including Murder, She Wrote and Walker, Texas Ranger. He could watch episodes over and over again and would never tire of them. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and crown green bowling, playing mainly at Townley Park and also at Mercer Park. Sam had a soft spot for animals and always supported animal rights. He gave the most loving home to his pet cats, George and Minnie, who were truly spoilt felines.

Sam was loved and cherished by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be greatly missed, but remembered always for his kind, caring and gentle nature.

Ann would like to express her appreciation to the staff on ward D3 for the love and care shown to Sam, especially to Staff Nurse’s Lindsey and Jackie. Also a special thanks to the Burnley District Nurses’ Team for all their help and support and a very special thanks to Palliative nurse Jo Fellows for being such a special nurse.

Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in Sam’s memory on behalf of Carers Link Lancashire and Cats Protection.
