Memorial Book
Peacefully on 21st April 2026, Robert, aged 84 years, of Preston. The devoted husband of the late Marlene, a loving and much-loved dad of Helen and Ken, dear father-in-law of Graham and Charlene, and a cherished grandad of Cam, Liz, Alex, Karl, Jamie, Zak and the late Jason. A proud great-grandad of Oliver and Finley, dear brother of David, the late Jean and the late Bryan, brother-in-law of Lorraine, and a respected relative and friend to many.
A lifelong member of the Preston Salvation Army, Robert was always willing to lend a helping hand at events. A former member of the brass band, he had a great love of music and especially looked forward each year to the Christmas concerts, raising money for good causes. At home, Robert found great joy in his garden and enjoyed tinkering and fixing things. A true grafter, he worked hard throughout his life as an electrical engineer. His first job was at Courtaulds, Red Scar Works, Preston, and he later worked for Thorn Lighting and Whitbread’s. While living in Ireland for several years, he also worked for Heinz, forming many lasting friendships along the way. Robert spent most of his life in Preston, though he also lived in Ireland for a number of years. A devoted family man, he was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. In later years, he lovingly cared for his beloved wife Marlene, his true soulmate. He had a great love for animals, particularly dogs, and adored his beloved pet, Pru. She was certainly a spoilt pooch, and Robert treasured nothing more than sharing a brisk walk with her.
Robert will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family flowers only, please. Donations are gratefully received in Robert’s memory for The Salvation Army.

A kind, warm & sincere gentleman that I had the pleasure of knowing. I will remember his wonderful sense of humour & smiling face. I will remember his appreciation for a coffee & porridge in a morning & the songs we would sing …. Especially ‘joy, joy, joy’ He will always hold a special place in my heart & special memories. Sending love to all the family.
