On Monday, 20th October 2025, Mavis, aged 84 years, of Clayton, fell asleep peacefully at EachStep Nursing Home. A treasured mum to Matthew, Andrew, and Rachael, a much loved grandma to Paige and Leah, and an adored great grandma to Bobby.
Born and raised in Clayton le Moors, Mavis lived a life full of love, laughter, and determination. In her early twenties, she attended teacher training college, later going on to teach Home Economics at Norden High School in Rishton. Thousands of pupils will fondly remember being taught by her how to make her famous coconut cones, a recipe that became a much loved favourite among generations of students.
A devoted mother, Mavis raised her three children single handedly, balancing work and family with grace, grit, and an unshakable sense of purpose. Family was always at the heart of everything she did. Her strength and determination shaped not only her own life but also the lives of those around her. When she heard she was to become a grandmother for the first time, Mavis gave up smoking in an instant, a testament to her deep love for her family.
Mavis loved to travel, sharing many wonderful adventures with her children over the years. After retiring in her late fifties, she embraced her love of seeing the world even more, visiting destinations far and wide from America to the Far East and almost every corner of Europe. One of her most cherished adventures was a cruise along the River Nile, a 70th birthday gift from her children that created memories she treasured forever.
At home, Mavis found great joy in her garden, where she spent many happy hours tending to her plants and flowers. She was also a talented cook who loved experimenting with new recipes and sharing her creations with family.
Mavis was known for being no nonsense and straight to the point, she said it as it was, but always from a place of honesty and love. Those who knew her best will remember her warmth, humour, and unwavering heart.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
