Mark Alan Blackshaw

Suddenly on 22nd March 2024, Mark aged 60 years of Baxenden. The devoted and much loved husband of  Julie, loving dad of Zoe and Amy, dear father-in-law of Luke and Connor, adored ‘pops’ of Ava Mae, dearly loved son of Alan and the late Valerie, dear brother of Lee, brother-in-law of Sandra and respected uncle of Summer and Myles. Mark was also a loved relative and friend to many.

Mark was a larger than life character who had a  presence that could not be ignored, he was a born entertainer who loved nothing more than getting on the karaoke to blast out one of his favourite tunes. He was a former Police Constable for Greater Manchester Police and Mark was very passionate about his work and always proud of the community that he served in Salford. He loved to cook and he would spend hours researching his latest recipe and then he would be off to Asda to carry out the shopping with military precision – Mark loved to shop. The most doting family man, Mark doted on his girls and was fiercely protective of them and when he became grandad ‘pops’ to Ava Mae this was the icing on his cake and she instantly became the apple of his eye. He also loved to watch MotoGP and was an avid reader of Hi-Fi magazine.

Mark will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in Mark’s memory on behalf of British Heart Foundation & Diabetes UK

Heartfelt condolences to Julie, Zoe, Amy and all the family.  A true gentleman and colleague and someone I was lucky to call a friend. I was shown endless support as I began a new career working alongside him, serving our community of which Mark was so proud. Lots of laughter and some tears but always there with that support.  A genuine family man with never but good words for Julie and the girls. Fly high Mark, one of the best,  Bev, Gary & Chris xx

    Leon & Suzanne

Julie, unsure where to begin. Since we moved onto the close Mark was so welcoming & warm. Suzanne would often comment about how safe she would feel when I was away. A true gent, it’s such a shame we never got to hear the karaoke. Please know we are here to support in any way possible.

Condolences from us all. So many fond memories from our time as neighbours and friends in Baxenden. Our two gardens with fence removed, a great play ground for our children and all those shared barbecues under the Baxenden ‘sun’.  Mark helped everyone he came to know, his big character and sense of fun lightened up everyone’s day. He will be missed by so many. All our thoughts are with you Julie, Zoe and Amy and your family. Lots of Love, Mick, Deb, Hayleigh, Bee and all our families.

I have only just become aware of this very sad news. On joining the police and arriving at Park Lane Police station, Mark made me feel at ease from the very first day and this helped me a great deal. What a lovely man, I pass on my sincere condolences to his family. RIP.
