Memorial Book
Peacefully surrounded by his loving family on 18th April 2026, John, aged 82 years, of Rishton. The devoted and much loved husband of Debbie and the late Caroline; loving dad of David and Victoria; step-dad of Abbie and Thomas; cherished grandad of Oliver, William, Charlie, Molly, Zac and Asher; dear brother of Arthur; and a respected relative and good friend to many.
A proud Welshman, John’s story began in Aberystwyth. He left his hometown at the age of 21 when he enrolled in the British Army, serving with the Royal Welch Fusiliers until 1977. He was very proud of his service, and his Army days held a special place in his heart. Throughout his life, he kept in touch with comrades, regularly speaking with and meeting up with them. He later lived in Bristol, where he worked for many years as a newsagent area manager for NSS and Shell. Following the sad loss of his first wife, Caroline, John met Debbie whilst inWales at an army reunion and he made the move to Lancashire to be with her. He settled in Rishton, and the town became his home. He was a familiar face at the Station pub and could often be found enjoying a pint or two whilst chatting with his many friends. John had the ability to talk about anything with anyone and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John was a very proud family man and treasured time spent with those he loved. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and he loved hearing about their adventures in life. He was always proud of his family’s achievements, no matter how big or small. There was another special love in John’s life, and that was his beloved four-legged companion, Milo, whom he truly adored and spoiled.
No flowers by request. Donations are being gratefully received in John’s memory on behalf of The Royal British Legion, a charity very close to his heart.
The service will be live streamed for anyone unable to attend in person.

It saddens me that I won’t be there for John’s funeral, I’d love to have been able to make it back over to show my respects.
John was an absolute legend in my eyes. I could count on him for a good chat over a pint and his worldly words always were always welcomed.
I always admired his love for his Welsh Rugby side, and his tenacity come game days in the Station.
God speed and fair winds my old friend and I hope the beer is nice and cold up there.
Rest in peace mate.
