Elizabeth Mary Benson ‘Libby’

On Saturday, 11 January 2025, peacefully in hospital, Libby, aged 74 years passed away. Libby leaves her loving husband, Alan, dearest daughters Kathy and Yvonne, dearest stepson Shane, beloved grandchildren Jodie, Charlie and Leighton and dear step grandchildren Tom, Hannah and Alec. Libby came from a large family of eight and she also leaves three brothers Paul, John and Craig, kind sisters Heather and Angela and the late Gillian and Christine alongside her late mother Jennie. She has many nephews, nieces and cousins and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Libby lived in Accrington all her life and attended St Mary’s School in Oswaldtwistle followed by Holy Family High School in Accrington. Libby had various types of employment in Accrington and maintained a strong work ethic throughout. Libby later retrained and became a housing officer for Eaves Brook Housing Association, she was subsequently employed as a Housing Advice and Homeless Officer for Hyndburn Borough Council where she was an enthusiastic, dedicated and compassionate member of the team.

Libby spent over 40 happy years with her husband – Alan. They had a good social life and thoroughly enjoyed many holidays together; especially on the Greek Island of Corfu where they had many adventures while travelling (under their own steam) on the back of a hired motor scooter. As nature lovers, Libby and Alan enjoyed taking to the open road with their caravan; they particularly enjoyed hiking in the Yorkshire Dales. They also honed their horticultural skills growing vegetables at their allotment and created lovely gardens at their home.
Family, friends and flowers are welcome.
