Memorial Book

In hospital on 8th March 2025, Eddie, aged 77, of Accrington. The much-loved dad of Deborah and Michelle, dear father-in-law of Jeremy and Deborah’s partner Gary, cherished Gramps of Thomas, Natalie, Mia, Jayden, Bethanie, Jacob, and James, Great Gramps to Dyllan, dear brother of the late Marjorie, loved uncle to Barbara and the late Gary, and a dear relative and friend to many.

A former butcher at Accrington Market straight from school, Eddie loved his work and the banter. He also went on to work with Clegg’s Butchers, Watkies, and even after retirement, Eddie would get his knives out again to help at Croppers Butchers. Eddie later developed a passion for antiques, opening his own shop in Clayton, ‘Edward V Phillips Antiques’. He could often be seen in his claret and blue Waggon, collecting his next project. Eddie loved restoring anything and everything to its former glory and even found himself liaising with people across the pond, shipping his creations to America. Eddie’s love for football was also well-known. He was an avid supporter of Burnley Football Club, where he held a season ticket for many years. When his grandchildren started to follow in his footsteps, they looked forward to their time with Gramps, cheering the team on together. The grandchildren would also look forward to their little visits on Tuesdays for tea and a cheeky brew. Eddie adored animals, especially his four-legged companions, many of whom he rescued, giving each of them a loving home where they were all spoiled as if they were his babies. Eddie loved to travel, frequently visiting France and regularly taking trips to Ireland to visit friends and family. Eddie was well loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

We got on well from getting to know each other at the market hall days. Even then we always had a laugh. Until recently, we often met walking the dogs — any subject talked about, we would have a laugh. RIP Eddie.

Eddie was a wonderful and dear family friend, especially with my Grandad, Terry Jackson. Enjoyed the banter with Eddie being a Burnley fan and most of my family being Blackburn fans. A true gentleman and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace Eddie.

Will miss your cheeky grin, Eddie. We had spice fun on the market. That poor lady whose shoe you took when she was trying on some shoes at the shoe stall. You will be very much missed. You and Macky keep the giggles down up there. Good night, God bless.

Your dad was a fantastic friend to me. He listened to all my problems and advised me. I’m going to be so very lost without him. He called on his way back from Burnley or Bacup. I used to make him apple crumbles which he loved. If I was in Accrington I would pop in for a brew. He was so welcoming. I know all about your family through him and he knew about mine. I have now to find a second driver. RIP Eddie.

Sara Morris ‘Pilks’
Sending my best friend and family my heartfelt sympathy and support. I have so many fond memories of Eddie. Although I hadn’t seen him much these last few years, we messaged over social media. Last time I saw Eddie he was sat in his daughter’s kitchen. He always said, “Hey, how are you Pilks?” with some follow-up banter. Whatever I said it would always make him laugh. Eddie, rest easy from daughter no.3.
