Reginald Wilkinson ‘Reg’
On Friday 27th September 2024 Suddenly but peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, Reginald ‘Reg’ Wilkinson of Barrow. Beloved husband of Carole, dearly loved Dad of Graham and Gary and a dear grandad.
Born in Accrington, Reg lived in Spring Hill Road Accrington and was educated at Accrington Grammar school. As a young man he would sing as a soloist in a variety of churches in the Accrington area.
Reg began his working life with the Co-Op in groceries and provisions, he left the Co-Op to carry out his national service in the Royal Army Medical Corps in Korea and was once mentioned in dispatches for distinguished service. He remained throughout his life a proud Korean veteran.
Following his national service Reg returned to working at the Co-Op where he met his beloved Carole. Reg and Carole married in 1955 initially living in Oswaldtwistle until moving to Padiham where they lived above the Co-Op store. Reg and Carole moved with the Co-op to St Albans, Chepstow and Colwyn Bay, finally settling back in Wilpshire where he opened his own grocery shop. Reg then worked for a short time at Moseley’s bakery in Accrington which later became Warburton’s, following this Reg and his family became market traders in different parts of Lancashire. Reg eventually retired in 2001 after suffering a serious heart attack.
Reg was loved by all who knew him, he will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.
