A service of Thanksgiving followed by Interment in the Churchyard will be held at Inghamite Church, Wheatley Ln Rd, Fence, Burnley BB12 9QG.
Peacefully on 9th May 2025, Philip, aged 79 years, of Fence.
The devoted husband of Jean, much-loved dad of Christopher and his wife Diane, and Mark and his partner Victoria. A cherished grandad to Lauren, Megan, Emily, Callum, Nikita, Alexander, Ryan, and Drew, and proud great-grandad to Arthur, Elsie, Rosie, and Tommy. Philip was also a dear brother to Andrew and leaves behind many extended family members and close friends, including his lifelong companions Stanley, John, and Sylvia.
A lifelong electrical engineer, Philip began his career following his university studies, working first for NORWEB and later United Utilities. He was deeply dedicated to his profession and was widely respected by his colleagues for his intelligence, reliability, and quick grasp of complex ideas.
Philip had a passion for travel and, over the years, enjoyed many memorable holidays across Europe. His favourite destinations were the Greek Islands and the Canaries, where he loved discovering new places and ending each day with a good meal. Friendly and easy-going, Philip had a natural gift for conversation and made friends wherever he went—he always had a story to share.
He was proud of his home in Fence, where he was a familiar face in the community. He generously gave his time as a volunteer at the local library, contributing to the life of the village he loved so dearly.
Philip will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Donations are being gratefully received in Philip’s memory on behalf of Fence Community Library c/o the funeral directors. A donation box will be available on the funeral day.
RIP Phil. Thank you for your friendship and everything that you did for me at work. A fine gentleman. You will be missed. God Bless !
So sad to hear of the passing of Philip who was a friend and colleague for many years. I worked along side Phil much of the time for many a year assisting him with his duties within the power supply industry. He had a great knowledge of and understanding of the electrical engineering discipline and despite some humoured conversations, he was always willing to to pass on his knowledge and indeed he was an inspiration in my career studies and development !
We have not had much contact since retirement, but I have called in for a brew now and then and, on the odd occasion bumped into both him and Jean when they were out for lunch !
I know we all have to leave sometime, but it is still a sad feeling when someone who had a substantial influence in your life and career is no longer around !
Rest in Peace Phil.
