Joan Valerie Eccles
Peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Moorhead Care Home on 19th December 2024, Joan aged 87 years of Oswaldtwistle. The devoted and much loved wife of the late John, loving and loved mum of Tracy, dear mother-in-law of Tracy Neil, cherished and adored grandma of Helen and Liam and his partner Catherine, loved granny Joan of Erin, Emmie and AJ, loved sister of Brenda and Elaine and a dear auntie, relative and friend to many.
Joan was a true lady in every sense of the word, she was elegant, always immaculately presented, with her hair and makeup flawlessly applied. A former telephonist at Blackburn Town Hall, she was often the first point of contact for many and with her superb organisational skills, Joan kept the telephone system running like clockwork, always answering with a perfected, eloquent telephone manner. Her career at the Town Hall spanned over thirty years, during which she formed many cherished and loyal friendships.
Family was at the heart of Joan’s life. She was a devoted and doting presence, always cherishing time spent with those closest to her. She loved nothing more than getting away on holiday with her family, enjoying cruises with her beloved husband, John, as well as trips to Spain and other destinations. Each evening on their travels, Joan would be dressed to impress, showing off her signature elegance. She also treasured family holidays further afield, including memorable visits to America and the magic of Disneyland. Joan had a passion for dancing, which she shared with John. In later years, she embraced line dancing, which not only brought her joy but also introduced her to a new circle of friends and even led to a girls’ holiday to Benidorm. A perfectionist at heart, Joan was incredibly house proud. Her home was always spotless, a testament to her meticulous nature, and her garden was a vibrant display of colour throughout the summer months.
Joan will be remembered as a woman of grace, warmth, and dedication—a loving wife, a proud mother and grandmother, and a treasured friend to all who knew her.
Joan was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed but fondly remebered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

To my beautiful grandma. No words can express how much you mean to me and how much I love you. I couldn’t have asked for a better grandma than you. You showed me so much love, and you always accepted me for who I was. For this, I will always be truly grateful. You are my best friend. I could talk to you about anything and everything for hours and I will miss you every single day. Love you so much.
