Jean West

On Wednesday 14th August 2024, Jean aged 95 years of Clayton Le Moors.  Beloved Wife of the late John, loving Mum of Sally and James, dear Mother in law of Andrew and Lucy, and much missed Gran of Hannah, Matthew, Jack and Edward.

Born in Clitheroe, Jean attended St James’ Primary school then Clitheroe Grammar school.

Jean first began her working life at Brockhall hospital on an apprenticeship as a pharmacy assistant.  Jean then proudly gained a place at Nottingham University studying pharmacy.  Following her graduation Jean worked for Boots the chemists as a pharmacist and during her time was nominated as woman of the year due to being one of the first female pharmacists.

After marrying John and bringing up her family Jean returned to work on a part time basis at Little Harwood Pharmacy until her retirement.

Jean and her late husband John enjoyed memorable holidays together visiting many favourite places including Spain, Florida, and Italy where they particularly loved Venice.

Following John’s passing Jean enjoyed the companionship and support of her neighbours Judith and John, and days out with her good friends Avril, Maureen and Val.  Jean also maintained an interest in John’s printing business, The Borough Printing Co Ltd.

Jean’s family was really important to her and she loved spending time with her Grandchildren who she adored, each one holding a special place within her heart.

Jean will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her

    Mrs Tracey Jacobs

Jean was quite a remarkable lady. She was so kind and gentle, and had the most beautiful, and sparkling blue eyes and a radiant smile. She was by far the most beautifully elegant and stylish lady I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Jean’s love for all of her family radiated from her, and although she leaves a huge gap, she fills it with that love and uniqueness., that is forever remembered.
