Jean Teresa Gavin

Peacefully in hospital on 7th May 2024, Jean aged 91 years of Oswaldtwistle. The much loved mum of Paul, Michael, Jane and Sean, dear mother-in-law of Tracy, Michael and Angela, cherished nanny-bob of Sabrina, Michaela, Kayleigh, Aidan, Patrick, Nathan and Caitlin, great little nan of Betsy, Frankie and Alice and also a loved relative and friend to many.

Former English teacher at Holy Family and Saint Augustines school, Jean was devoted to her work and had a special way of connecting with her pupils passing on her vast knowledge and love of literature, creative writing and poetry. Jean was also a very proud self published author of three books. She was a free spirit who knew her own mind and always did things her own way, a keen animal lover Jean gave a loving home to many cats an dogs over the years and she leaves behind her beloved companion Charlie and cat, Rocky. Jean was a keen gardener and always ensured her garden bloomed in full colour throughout the summer months. She was a keen tennis fan and loved to keep up to date with tournaments from the comfort of her home and she even had a cardboard cut out of Rafael Nadal, gifted to her by her granddaughter. An avid reader, Jean loved to read her latest novels and loved nothing more than watching one of her favourite musicals and could often be found enjoying one of her perfectly hand rolled cigarettes.

Most of all Jean was the most doting family lady who loved to spend time with those closest to her and always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
