James Arthur Cooke (Jim)

Peacefully in hospital on 28th January 2025, Jim aged 82 years of Great Harwood. The devoted husband of the late Maria, loved dad of Deborah, Bev and Joanne and a dear father-in-law, grandad, great-grandad, brother, relative and friend to many.

A well-known and much-loved local character who thrived on good company, lively banter, and a well-poured pint. A familiar face in the pubs and clubs around Great Harwood, he was always up for a laugh and never short of a joke. In his younger years, he was a local DJ, earning himself the title of ‘The Karaoke King’—and if there was a mic around, you could bet he’d be belting out a Neil Diamond classic. A self-employed electrician by trade, Jim was always happy to lend a hand, whether fixing a fuse or offering some questionable DIY advice. He loved his holidays, especially his escapes to La Manga with his beloved Maria, often joined by their good friends John and Linda, where he could unwind and relax in the warm sunshine. He was a man who lived life to the full, surrounded by friends, family, laughter and music, living his best life in his own way.

Jimmy always made me laugh and smile even if I wasn’t having a good weekend. He made me realise I enjoy karaoke. Most importantly Cooky was a friend that wanted the best for me and it was evident. Being out and not seeing him there felt truly strange. Best wishes to the family at this sad time. He will be missed!
