Peacefully on 16th May 2026, Irene, aged 98 years, of Great Harwood. The devoted wife of the late Donald, much-loved and loving mum of Simon and Gillian, dear mother-in-law of Richard, cherished gran of Cheryl, adored great-gran of Macey and Millie, and also a dear relative and friend.
Irene spent her working life at Mullard’s in Blackburn, where she worked in the offices. With her wonderful organisational skills, she was always a highly respected member of the team. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and made many lifelong friends throughout the years. It was whilst working at Mullard’s that Irene met Donald, whom she would go on to marry, sharing a wonderful 61 years together. At home, Irene loved spending time in her garden, which always bloomed with colour throughout the spring and summer months. She also enjoyed settling down each day to complete her crossword puzzles. Irene was generous with her time and devoted many years volunteering for MENCAP, helping to raise funds for supported living accommodation, enabling people with disabilities to live independently. Holidays were always something Irene looked forward to, especially the many wonderful trips to her favourite destinations of Devon and Cornwall, and she always enjoyed a meal out with family and friends. Irene was the most devoted family lady, loving nothing more than being surrounded by those she loved and cherished.
Loved by all who knew her, Irene will be sadly missed but fondly remembered for her kind and caring nature.
Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in Irene’s memory on behalf of MENCAP, a charity very close to her heart.
