Ian John Readett

On 23rd November 2024, peacefully in hospital, Ian aged 74 years of Great Harwood.  Beloved husband of the late Sue, dearly loved dad of Paul, dear father in law of Michelle, devoted grandad of Ellie and dear brother of Cynthia.

Born with a clever mind and gifted hands, Ian dedicated his life to mastering his craft as a motor mechanic. He began his working life in Great Harwood at various garages, progressing to Oswaldtwistle before finding his last job at Stephensons Fork Truck. It was there that Ian’s skill and dedication truly shone as he worked his way up to Service Manager. He wasn’t just good at what he did – he was exceptional. Ian loved his work, and it showed in the care and precision he brought to every job. Out of work, Ian loved family holidays on the South coast and spending days out at the seaside. He loved visits to the zoo with Sue and Paul, and later taking granddaughter Ellie – who had her grandad wrapped round her little finger. Ian had also been an avid steam train fan and Paul and Ellie have many happy memories of their day trips on the trains whilst they were young. At home, Ian loved a good action film and also liked his food, and was very lucky to share his life with Sue who was an excellent cook. With a twinkle in his eye and a cheeky grin, Ian could be so funny. Of all the joys in his life, his family and home stood at the centre. Stoic through his illnesses, Ian was an inspiration through his challenges. May he rest in peace, re-united with his beloved wife, Sue.
