Gerard Braithwaite

On 6th June (D Day) 2024, peacefully at his home, Gerard, aged 92 years of Accrington. Husband of the late Isabel, much loved dad of Linda, Philip and the late David, step-dad of the late Anna, dear father in law of Mark, Jacqueline and Sharon, loving G-pop of Trevor & Ashleigh and Glenn & Jodie, loving grandad of Jonathan, Anthony, Sharon and Linda, great G-pop of Freddie, Tilly, papa of Lyra and Calan, also a loved brother of John and the late Colleen, Donald and David.

Gerard dedicated 28 years of his life to serving his country in the Army with the Royal Corps of Transport, as a Warrant Officer Class II. These were some of the happiest years of his life, as he cherished the opportunity to travel the world. Following his distinguished army career, Gerard became the Transport Clerk at Robinsons Coaches. In his free time, he enjoyed watching a variety of sports, especially local league cricket matches, with a particular fondness for Accrington and Haslingden Cricket Clubs. Gerard had also been an avid supporter of Accrington Stanley and enthusiastically watched Speedway Motorbike racing. He regularly met his friends at the bookmakers for a good catch-up over a coffee and a 50p flutter on the horses. With a twinkle in his eye and a wicked sense of humour, Gerard was something of a flirt with the ladies. Also a great raconteur, he loved sharing stories from his army days and showing the family’s children all the places he had visited around the world. Gerard had also been a passionate listener of music, especially the songs of the great crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Mario Lanza. He lived a long and lovely life and leaves many happy memories.

Donations in lieu of flowers are being gratefully received in memory of Gerard on behalf of  Prostate Cancer UK and The Royal Engineers Association.  To make a donation please click the blue donate button at the foot of this page.
