David John Chatburn ‘Dave’

Peacefully in hospital on 28th October 2024 David aged 74 years of Baxenden and formerly of Helmshore. The devoted husband of Lorraine, loving dad of Darren and Marcus, dear father-in-law Emma and Carla, cherished grandad of Ruby, Libby, William and Thomas, dear brother of Johann and a loved uncle, relative and good friend to many.

Dave was truly the life and soul of any gathering, lighting up every room with his fun-loving spirit and unmistakable twinkle in his eye. Utterly devoted to his family, he loved nothing more than bringing everyone together for a celebration, always ensuring that no glass was ever left empty when he was around. His career as a chef began with an apprenticeship at The Bulls Head in Wilpshire, followed by a move to Brown Leaves restaurant on Longsite Road Blackburn, where he worked alongside his late parents, Jack and Irene, and whilst there he was proud to have catered for HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh upon the opening of Walker Steel. His culinary talents weren’t limited to professional kitchens, as he was a master of the kitchen at home, always eager to spoil his family with delicious meals. Later, Dave switched careers and became a self-employed painter and decorator and was always happy to help his family with home improvements. He enjoyed nothing more than getting away with his beloved wife and soulmate, Lorraine, who he shared a wonderful 51 years of marriage, for some well-earned rest and relaxation, they’d soak up the warm sunshine together while Dave savoured a glass of his favourite tipple, brandy. In later years Dave and Lorraine enjoyed many amazing times touring in their caravan and motorhome. Dave’s life was full of rich experiences: a lifelong Rovers supporter, he was a keen golfer in his younger days, and later developed a love of fishing, happily spending hours by the water’s edge, surrounded by nature. A perfectionist at heart, Dave put in 100% to everything he did, and if a job was worth doing, it would always be done to the highest standard.

Dave was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, and he leaves behind countless treasured memories. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to share in his life.

We cannot express how devastated we were to hear of Dave’s passing. We’ve both known and been friends of Dave since the mid 1960s. In life we all have many acquaintances but you will be able to count true friends on the fingers of one hand, a true friend is someone who you know you can rely on for help in times of trouble. Dave was a true friend. RIP Dave.
