David Edward Monk
Passed away peacefully following a short illness surrounded by his loving family at his home on the 31st March 2024 aged 78 years, David of Great Harwood.
The devoted and beloved husband of Angie, loving dad of Naomi and Chris, dear father-in-law of Craig and Carla, and cherished grandad of Josh, Gracie, Amber, Jason, Jack and Mia. David was well known in the local community and a loyal friend to many.
David was a larger than life character who could often be heard before he was seen, he had a twinkle in his eye and the most distinct and contagious laugh. Following his school years David secured himself an apprenticeship at LUCAS training to become an electrical engineer. Following this, David enrolled himself on to the first ever computer course at Blackburn College in 1966 which enabled him to seek work as a work study engineer. He spent time working at Birdseye and later at RISTS Wires before taking early retirement aged 50 when he continued to carry out his ‘bobbys’ jobs doing the Littlewoods pools round and delivering school meals. David was a man who was very content with his life, in his own words he said – ‘I have had the perfect life, the perfect wife and the perfect family’. His home was his happy place and he loved nothing more than relaxing in his chair watching one of his favourite films or his favourite series ‘Game of Thrones’. David was super organised and loved a list and he always ensured jobs that needed doing were carried out, usually by someone else as David always did ‘Just Enough’. He was the most proud family man and he truly doted on his children and grandchildren who he would have done anything for and he always looked forward to gathering family and friends for a celebration and a drink of his favourite Fosters Lager.
