On 23rd April 2026, peacefully in a private care home, Tony, aged 77 years, of Salesbury.
The devoted and dearly loved husband of the late Eileen, a cherished and loving dad to Natalie and dear father-in-law to Paul, and a proud and loving grandad to Elsie-Mae and Matilda.
From a young age, Tony had a great passion for both football and cricket. By a remarkable twist of fate, scouts from both sports came to watch him in the same week, but it was football that came back to him first, and it became Tony’s lifelong passion. Beginning his career as a striker before moving into midfield, Tony played for Buxton Town before joining Blackburn Rovers in 1970. Sadly, a serious injury in 1981 brought his playing career to an end, but he went on to become a dedicated and highly respected coach at the club.
Tony devoted his life to the beautiful game and was admired by many for his commitment and quiet determination. A gentle and reserved man, he was deeply devoted to Eileen and Natalie, and was a wonderfully hands-on and caring dad. He also enjoyed golfing, walking locally, and was a familiar and friendly face in the community. Tony loved watching all kinds of sport on television and had a great appreciation for music. At home, he could often be heard singing along to his favourite songs, and his quick wit and perfectly timed one-liners never failed to make you laugh.
A true gentleman, inside and out, Tony will be remembered with love today and always.
Re-united with his beloved wife, Eileen.
Donations in Memory of Tony are being gratefully received on behalf of The Blackburn Rovers Community Trust
