William Mayor – Bill
On 18th August 2022, as a result of a car accident, Bill, aged 83 years of Newchurch Village, Burnley. Husband of Sue, father of Rachel and Alistair, grandfather of Declan, Clementine and Rose, father in law of Adrian.
Bill spent his working life as an insurance broker working at Sun Alliance and then taking over Gray & Co Insurance in Burnley in 1972 until his retirement. Bill liked to be involved in his local community and whilst living in Roughlee was an active member of Nelson Rotary serving as President in the early 90’s. He also chaired the parish council for several years and was involved in the development of a village centre. In 2000, Bill and Sue moved to Newchurch and again Bill became involved in the parish and chaired Goldshaw Booth Parish Council and the committee for the Diamond and golden celebrations. With their fundraising and grants they were able to plant 3000 trees and also carry out improvements in the village. Bill was an avid walker and enjoyed walking Pendle Hill and a highlight was in 1991 when Bill and three friends went to The Himalayas and walked Mera Peak. He had a great sense if humour and also loved to listen to classical music and opera.
Donations are being gratefully received in memory of Bill on behalf of North West Air Ambulance via the blue donate button at the bottom of this page.
