Memorial Book
Peacefully and surrounded by his loving family Vic aged 90 years, passed away at Royal Blackburn hospital on the 25th February 2025. He was born in Herefordshire but spent most of his life in Clayton le Moors after meeting the love of his life Mary his devoted wife of 72 years. Forever cherished and remembered by his children Sandra, Derek, Pamela, Peter and Mandy and the late Denise, dear Father-in-law of Stephen, Linda, Ken, Steph and Brett. His memory lives on with his Grandchildren, earning him the affectionate name ‘Grandad Doo-Dah’, his Great Grandchildren and Great, Great, Grandchildren. Victor was also a proud grandad to the late Pte Jason Lee Rawstron. Victor completed his National Service in the Army in the Royal Artillery regiment. Throughout his working life he enjoyed a variety of roles including a farm labourer and council worker, but his job at Riley’s Chemicals as a maintenance worker for over 35 years was the role he settled into. Vic was an avid pool player, competing for many local pubs, many a young lad learning a thing or two from him about how to play the game. He was respected by everyone he met as being a true gentleman. Vic and Mary would be part of the fixtures and fittings at their local The Forts Arms, no one daring to pinch Mary’s stool. Everyone knew Vic and Mary on the Clayton pub circuit, where they went on to make many lifelong friends. Vic spent many countless hours in his garden, only coming in to be fed and watered. He was also a DIY enthusiast, always willing to tackle any task and possessing the perfect tool for every job. Holidays were a treasured time for Vic and Mary, visiting places ranging from Egypt, Austria, Spain and Turkey to their UK favourite holidays in Blackpool often taking some of the grandchildren with them. Donations in lieu of flowers are being gratefully received on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society. To make a donation, please click the blue ‘Make A Donation’ at the bottom of this page. A donation box will also be available at the service. Please feel free to leave a message for Vic’s online memorial book by completing the form below.
