Tom Young

Mr Tom Young, aged 86 years, of Stanhill, Oswaldtwistle, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Barbara, of nearly 40 years, comforting him.  A much loved brother to David, his twin, Tom leaves us with many happy memories and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Tom worked, as a craftsman joiner, at Howard and Bullough’s (latterly Platt’s engineering) until his retirement when he was able to give all his love and dedication to Barbara and the grandchildren.

A talented musician with a wonderful Bass voice, and his precious trombone at his side, Tom was a valued member of Blackburn Music Society, Accrington Clef Club, Hyndburn Singers, Baxenden Concert Band et al, and together with Barbara, formed and led the Conchord Singers who performed across Hyndburn for over 30 years.

Tom was a well respected Freemason of longstanding within the East Ribble District.

The family would like to thank Dr. Prout and Susan Wolstenholme at Rhyddings Surgery. Fatima and staff at Eccles Chemist, the “downstairs tea room” staff at Oswaldtwistle Mills and the wonderful staff at Pendle Brook Care Home for all the care they have given to Tom and Barbara.

Family flowers only please, donations can be made in memory of Tom to Baxenden Concert Band or Macmillan Cancer Support. To make a donation please click the ‘Make A Donation’ at the bottom of this page.
