Thomas Hillman – Tom

Tom passed away peacefully on 26th May, 2022 in the loving care of Manor House, Chatburn. Formerly of Whalley. The dearly loved and devoted husband of Elizabeth, much loved dad of Ian and Patricia, dear father in law of Berni and Clive, loving grandad of Luke, Anna, Julia and Elliot and great grandad of Megan, Alecia, Orlagh, Kenz and Ida.

Tom was a maintenance builder with Platt Saco Lowell for over thirty years before becoming a busy, self employed builder. He loved to watch cricket at Whalley and also support his favourite football team – Blackburn Rovers, often shouting at the TV. Together, Tom and Elizabeth adored their bungalow in Whalley. Tom would spend many a happy hour in the garden or the conservatory and loved to watch the birds. In his younger years, he loved walking and also he and Elizabeth had travelled the world together. Tom enjoyed the sight-seeing and often used a guide to learn as much as he could. He enjoyed reading a good war book and sports books and read The Times each day, cover to cover. Tom was inspirational in his love and care for his family and each morning would kiss Elizabeth’s hand and say, “I love you, Mrs Hillman”.

Only got to know Tom in the last year but what a pleasure it was. Tom was a true gentleman, always asked how you were and even if he couldn’t hear your reply he would smile and pretend he did. Tom was the happiest sat with Elizabeth with his book, magnifying glass, biscuit and of course a coffee. What a wonderful remarkable man who I will miss deeply, especially our secret good night kiss on his head. God bless Tom.x
