Memorial Book

Suddenly at his home with his wife by his side on 19th July 2025, Stewart aged 77 years of Accrington. The devoted and much loved husband of Judith, loving and loved dad of Jackie and Glynn, dear father-in-law of Claire, cherished grandad of Cameron, Luke, Oscar and Olive, adored great-grandad of Ruben and Ayla, dear brother of Lynn, Glenys, Darrell and Tracy and a respected uncle, relative and good friend to many.

Stewart began his working life in the local mills before making the move into engineering, working for Atkinson’s in Clitheroe. He later went on to work as a dairyman for Associated Dairies, where he quickly earned the respect of his colleagues. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, Stewart steadily worked his way up to the role of foreman and also served as the shop steward, always standing up for his team and leading with integrity.

A true social butterfly, Stewart had an endless circle of friends and loved nothing more than sharing stories over a pint or two. He was a keen darts and dominoes player, representing several teams, including the BDO Town Team and Lancashire. He became a familiar and well-loved face on the competition circuit. Stewart also had a deep love for music, both listening and playing. He enjoyed strumming away on his guitar and was always at the heart of any gathering. His one-liners could fill a room with laughter in seconds, and he could talk to anyone about anything. His signature phrase, “Let me tell you a story,” was often the start of an entertaining tale that everyone would enjoy. Among his many interests were fishing, martial arts, and holidays, which always held a special place in his heart. He and his beloved wife, Judith, travelled the length and breadth of the UK in their treasured touring caravan, making wonderful memories along the way. They also enjoyed sun-soaked adventures in Italy, Spain, and Greece. Above all, Stewart was a devoted family man, loving, dependable, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His presence brought warmth, humour, and support to all who knew and loved him.

Stewart was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, he well be sadly missed but fondly remembered with love and affection. May he Rest In Peace.

Family flowers only please, donations are being gratefully received in his memory on behalf of British Heart Foundation and Kidney Research UK.

  • Maxine Winby (Niece) says:

They say there is a reason,
They say that time will heal,
    But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way we feel.

    For no-one knows the heartache,
    That lies behind our smiles,
    No-one knows how many times,
We have broken down and cried.

Gone from home that smiling face,
    Those cheerful happy ways,
The heart that was so many friends,
    In bygone Happy Days.

We want to tell you something,
So, there won’t be any doubt,
You’re so wonderful to think of,
But so hard to be without.

We cannot bring the old days back,
    When we were all together,
The family chain is broken now,
    But memories last forever.

Uncle, you filled our family with so much love and strength.
You had such an impact on my own life, giving advice and support.
I will miss you dear Uncle Stewart!

    With much love
    Maxine (Niece)
    George, Emma and Charlotte

  • Tracy Simmonds says:

My Big Brother Stewart always there for help and advice when i needed it
When i look back on our lives i have my treasured memories that i will keep forever
from camping when we were younger to the many Christmas’s when we played our drinking games, and i know that you are very proud of me with my business as you always told me. I will miss you singing on the karaoke as you loved to take over the microphone.
I will miss your very witty one liners you always had a smile on your face for me and i know that when Mum and Dad died you became the head of the family. I am just sorry that you never got to give me away when we will eventually get married sometime after 40 years. Your legacy will live on through your Darts trophy named especially after you. I will make sure that your precious family are looked after.

Fly high with the angels as you are now with Mum & Dad. RIP from your little Sister Tracy until we meet again. xx
