Stephen James Palk -Steve

Beloved husband, dad and grandad, Steve Palk, left us in the early hours of Saturday morning, after facing cancer with fortitude, and uncomplaining good cheer. To the end of his life, he was always happy to see his family and friends and his laughter could be heard around the Grove where he ended his days.
Steve was a man who loved things. He loved his wife, Susan, and his children, Robert and Catherine. He loved his little grandaughter, Beatrice, and she more than returned that love – a one year old and a man in his seventies finding an instinctive bond. He loved Burnley football club, even if they didn’t always deserve it. He loved music, from the psychedelia of his youth to songwriters of the twenty-first century. He loved to walk out in the countryside with Susan, binoculars round his neck, spotting different birds before lunch at a pub or back home. He loved his work as a civil engineer and was proud of the infrastructure he helped to build. He loved good food, in fact he loved any food, eating random pickled stuff that nobody else would touch. He loved his brothers and friends and loved to laugh.
He was a kind and gentle man and left a legacy of deep affection in everyone he knew.

Steve, like his three brothers, was born (or instilled) with an innate sense of humour and love of life. Personally, I knew Steve from a very early age and have fond memories of him loving music, rampaging down the left wing on the High School playing fields, and hurtling through Devon country lanes in his Triumph Spitfire. And who could ever forget Radio Rosador! Lots of love to all xx

I fondly remember our combined families sledging on Accrington’s Hills in deep snow, camping out at a scout weekend. Lovely memories of him dancing at our wedding years ago. Sadly missed by all. Our love and sympathy goes out to Susan and family at this sad time. Rest in peace Steve. X

I knew Steve from the Sports centre swimming pool, he always enjoyed his swimming and the locker room banter afterwards. He was a nice guy and a gentleman. My heartfelt condolences to Susan and all his family.

Sending so much love to Susan, Robert, Catherine and all the family at this incredibly sad time.  Steve was such a kind, brave, gentle man who will be missed by all who knew him leaving a Steve shaped hole in so many lives.  We have so many happy memories of times spent with Steve and Susan over the years which we will hold in our hearts for ever. It was a privilege to be your friend Steve.

Having known Steve for little more than two years, it may be presumptuous to think that a friendship had developed, also hoping that it was mutual..  I do regard him as a friend and, for my part, this does not die at death.  Steve’s sense of humour was very dry, even near to the end. I send my deepest condolences to Susan and the family. May they eventually find peace.

    Gwynneth McManus

Sending love and recalling happy memories of a lovely man.
