Sheila Mary Woods

On 29 June 2023, peacefully in a private care home, Sheila, aged 92 years, of Waddington. The dearly loved wife of the late Harry, beloved mum of Laura, Mary, Harry, Eileen and the late David, loving sister of Bernard, Moira, Rick and the late Peter, she was a much-loved Granny and GG,  auntie and great auntie, and a dear friend to many.

It was clear to everyone who knew Sheila that her true calling was to work with children, and in her long and successful career as a primary school teacher, she was an inspiration to many young lives. She taught for many years  at Our Lady and St Hubert’s Primary School in Great Harwood,  before her final position at Devereux Preparatory School in Nelson. She loved her job,  and her talent for getting the best out of  children made her an exceptional teacher, affectionately remembered by many of her former pupils.

Sheila was a gentle lady with a lively imagination and a quick sense of humour that  never let her down and always made her family laugh.   She made the most of retirement, swimming, writing and especially dancing, which she delighted in; and she enjoyed many holidays, particularly in France – her favourite destination.  An avid reader, she also lived for her daily crossword and codeword. She spent 20 very happy years in the beautiful setting of Hospital Cottages, Waddington, amongst many friends.

Sheila was very much loved.  She will be fondly remembered for her caring and compassionate nature, and above all for the unconditional love she gave her family.
