Memorial Book
Peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on 22nd February 2025, Sheila, aged 86 years, of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted wife of the late Bill, a loving and cherished mum of Julie, Peter, Susan, Martyn, and the late Steven and David. A dear mother-in-law to Hilton, Donna, Dave, and Sharon. A proud and adored grandma to Ben, Emma, Kate, Ellis, Joni, Megan, Nicole, Liam, Lucy, Emily, Rowan, Lewis, and Beth, and a treasured great-grandma to Bailey, Sophie, Lucas, Tommy, Jacob, Ava, Oliver, Oscar, William, Eric, Daisy, James, Isabelle, and Arthur. A much-loved sister to Margaret and Jean, and a dear auntie, relative, and friend to many.
Born and raised in Clayton-le-Moors, Sheila spent her entire life in the town, becoming a well-known and much-loved part of the community. She was a lifelong member of All Saints’ Church, where she was both baptised and married, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. A true grafter, Sheila worked tirelessly to provide the best life for her family. She began her working life as a weaver in the local mills before moving to Oxo, where she became a skilled machinist. Wherever she worked, she was respected and valued, forming many lasting friendships along the way.
For Sheila, family was everything. She was a devoted mum, grandma, and great-grandma, and following her early retirement, she dedicated herself to helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each was loved unconditionally, and she never missed an opportunity to support them—whether cheering them on at sporting events or celebrating their every achievement, no matter how small. Fiercely loyal to her family and friends, Sheila had a heart of gold and would have given her last penny if she thought it would help someone. She never had a need for material possessions, finding true contentment in the love she shared with those closest to her. A passionate sports fan, she followed football, cricket and rugby league avidly, always keeping up with the latest scores and news.
Sheila will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, but she leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those she loved. May she rest in peace.

We haven’t just lost a special Mum, Sister, Grandma and Great Grandma — we have all lost a best friend. Sheila was a rock who was there for everyone through good and bad times and a true legend. For that I just want to say… thank you. If I can become just 1% of the human you were, I will be incredibly proud. Rest in peace Grandma and enjoy your time with Grandad, Steven and David. Love you lots x
