Roy MacFarlane

Suddenly at his home on 22nd October 2023, Roy aged 56 years of Blackburn. The devoted husband of Amanda, loved dad of Ross, grandad of Poppy and Laurie, dear brother of Neil and the late Stuart and a much loved and respected relative and friend to many.

A dedicated HGV driver who leaves behind a legacy of hard work and a passion for the open road. He inherited his love for the wheel from his father and it was in his genes. For the last 17 months Roy moved to Eccles Van Lines at unit 7 working as operations manager. Wherever Roy worked he was always highly respected and made many good friends along the way.

Roy was larger than life, with a charisma that endeared him to everyone he met. His warm and unique personality filled the room when he entered and he had a wide circle of friends who cherished his company. When he wasn’t on the road or at work, Roy could be found indulging in his love for fishing and tinkering in his garage. His double garage was a haven of organised chaos, and he had more spanners than the leading tool store.

Roy had a remarkable talent for turning his hand to any task, making him the go-to person for help and advice and he had a tool for every application and on the rare occasion he didn’t, he would be off to buy his latest piece of equipment. In his leisure time, he enjoyed unforgettable holidays, basking in the warm sunshine of destinations such as Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Cuba. Everyday was an adventure for Roy and he had an ability to make friends wherever he went like a magnet people where just drawn to him.

In the hearts of those who knew him, Roy’s memory will forever be cherished as a man of many talents, a lover of the open road, and a true friend to all. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Family flowers only please, donations are being gratefully received in Roy’s memory on behalf of The British Heart Foundation and Help For Heroes. To make a donation please click the ‘Make A Donation’ button at the bottom of this page.

    Deb & Bob Eccles

Bob has known Roy for over 15 years, in that time he has become a very loyal friend and a trusted work colleague. His larger than life personality will be sadly missed by all. I have known Amanda and Roy for 12 years plus… It was Roy’s idea Bob and I get together ( even though we had known each other well and lived very close for 20 years before) To us this was one of Roy’s better ideas. His main one of course was asking Amanda to marry him – for that Mr Mac , it’s a 10/ 10. Anyway Mr Mac sleep well our lovely friend. Till we meet again sending all our support to Amanda to keep strong and our loving thoughts tou you both. xxx

We only met Roy a couple of months ago while holidaying in Scotland in our RV. We parked next to Roy and Amanda for a couple.of days.  What a lovely funny witty gentleman Roy was a real character.  We hoped to meet up with Roy and Amanda in the future. We were totally shocked to hear of his passing.  Heaven has gained a good one there.  May you rest in peace Roy.
