Robert Stevenson Gray (Bob)

Peacefully surrounded by his loving family on 24th January 2022, Bob aged 90 years of Clitheroe and formerly of Glasgow. The devoted husband of the late Anna, loved dad of Catriona, David and Ian, dear father-in-law of Gerry, Sheryl and Susan and a cherished Gunga of Sophie, Mhairi, Hannah, Isobel, Angus and Anna.

Born in Glasgow, Bob always remained proud of his Scottish roots and was a true Scotsman. He met his beloved Anna at a Valentine’s ball in Inverness, it was love at first sight and the couple became inseparable. Together they shared a wonderful whirlwind relationship and just one year later they sealed their love by getting married in Ghana. Bob’s work as a civil engineer saw him travel around the world to many countries including Ghana, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and South Wales before he finally retired whilst working in Birmingham. He was dedicated to his work and made many life long friends throughout the world. He was the most proud dad to his three children and wherever his work took him he would always ensure they visited him as often as possible, providing the children with holidays that most could only dream of.
In his younger years Bob was always active and enjoyed Skiing and could often be found out walking in the glorious countryside, he was an avid golfer and always looked forward to meeting up with his many friends for a game. At home Bob loved to spend time in his workshop, creating the most beautiful pieces of furniture from wood. He was the most proud grandad and was known as ‘Gunga’ to all his grandchildren, he had an open door policy and everyone was always welcome.

We had the privilege of knowing Bob, Anna & family for many years during which we shared memorable holidays together. We formed a lasting friendship and have so many happy memories.

I was sad to hear that Bob has passed away. As a fresh graduate at Halcrow in the mid 1980s Bob was a steady and strong influence on my progress to Chartership. So kind and diligent in getting me “assigned” to projects where I could develop design and management skills. As a company director and lead for major programmes now I have a lot to thank him for. A lovely man, fondly remembered. RIP Bob and God bless your children and grandchildren.

Kim

RIP Uncle Bob – you were the purest Gentleman. Thank you to you, Auntie Anna & kids for opening your home to my brother Albert & myself. Two innocent Malaysian kids needing a place during school breaks – you showed us love, family and charisma. For that we will be forever grateful. Till we meet again, you and dad Tommy enjoy a few rounds of golf. Much Love Molly, Albert & Alan Pang ????

Jim Mackenzie

My thoughts are with you all. I met Bob several times when he came to visit Dave and family. A gentleman and what an interesting life he had.

Bob always had a smile on his face – definitely always glass half full – if not more! We are sure you will miss him terribly – but he is now at peace with Anna and looking down with pride on you all. Sorry we cannot be at the funeral – but we will be thinking of you and send all our love.

Jean and Colin Evans

Our thought and prayers are with you all. Bob was a dear neighbour.
