Phyllis White

On 6th January 2024, peacefully in hospital, Phyllis passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, aged 86 years, of Barrow. The dearly beloved wife of the late Joe, much loved and loving mum of Ian and Beverley, dear mother in law of Louise and cherished nanna of Jack, Sarah, Lewis and Leanne.

Phyllis worked as a debt collector at Greenwoods in Burnley, working well into her 70’s. She was more than just a debt collector; she was renowned as the nicest. Her beautiful smile, sunny nature, and an innate understanding of people set her apart. Even outside the workplace, Phyllis carried her warmth into her personal life. Blessed with love and kindness, she became like a second mum to so many, especially Diane and  Susan. She had a beautiful smile, a sunny nature and exuded elegance and glamour. Phyllis was a beautiful lady inside and out. She loved shopping and loved a good rummage in the charity shops, where she always had a great eye for a bargain. She was an avid Bingo fan and shared this with her friends Brenda and Joan and later with Susan and Christie.  Phyllis enjoyed holidays to Turkey with her good friend Brenda, soaking up the sunshine together and making lovely memories. Phyllis enjoyed watching darts on TV and adored Bradley Walsh. She loved crosswords, country music and in her later years, TV became her window to the world. A truly wonderful family lady – loved, cherished and adored, she will be remembered for her radiant smile, generous heart and devotion to her family.

What is written here says it all. I think in her work of debt collecting she was more like friend counsellor and support worker to people, who I believe looked forward to her visits. A ver kind and beautiful lady inside and out. I feel deeply sad that she is gone. So glad I spent time with you all in your garden on my before my travels to Scotland. My thoughts are with you all Bev, Jack and Lewis ❤️

It has been my privilege to be a bridge between the generations.  We shared so much laughter along with sadness at times, & not forgetting the shared lunches. Phyllis always looked fabulous, beautifully dressed even when she didn’t feel 100%. Missing her already as I know the family will,  but her legacy lives on in them and they have so many memories to cherish. Love to you xxxx
