Peter Raymond Tudor ‘Ray’
Peacefully on 1st September 2024, Peter Raymond Tudor aged 87 years formerly of Oswaldtwistle. Beloved Husband of the late Joanie, dearly loved Dad of Peter, Michael and Anita, dear Father in law of Jo and Phil, loving Grandad of Danielle, Kirstie, Ben, Beth and Hannah, very dear great Grandad of Liam and Amelia.
Born In Blackburn in 1937, Ray grew up during the hardships of World War 2 referring to himself as “a war baby”, he would always leave an empty plate letting no food be wasted, this trait remained with him throughout his life.
After attending St James school he went to Blackburn Technical High School which he affectionately referred to as “the brotherhood of tramps, hoboes and spivs”.
Ray became an apprentice coach builder at East Lancs Coachbuilders, then at 18 began his national service based in Germany with the Coldstream Guards where he learned to speak fluent German. Ray always remained proud of his service to his country. Following his time in Germany around the age of 21, Ray returned to England and joined the Fire Brigade based in Blackburn. Ray retired from the fire brigade after 30 years long service and then worked at Lloyds bank where he actually retired from twice.
Ray first met his beloved Joanie at a dance hall in Whalley and they were married in 1960. Throughout their happy life together, Ray and Joanie enjoyed memorable holidays in many places including Yugoslavia, Greece and Cyprus. They both loved walking and enjoyed nature and bird watching, especially at Marton Mere, and happily spending time with their dogs. Ray and Joanie enjoyed meals out together and visited Franco’s Italian restaurant in Oswaldtwistle twice every week.
Ray enjoyed crosswords and played darts for a local pub team. Ray will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

My heartfelt condolences to Danielle and the entire family. I too did not know ‘Ray’ but two things are clear – he was very special and very much loved!

Thank you for the insight into Ray’s life which was filled with hardship and joy. He’s now with his beloved Joanne hopefully doing what they loved to do together. God Bless.

It was an absolute pleasure knowing Ray. We were best friends during the year I have worked at Thorncliffe. He would teach me German and always made me smile. If I was ever having a bad day, Ray was the one who made me feel so much better. Ray has had a huge impact on my life and he will forever be missed.
Sue & Neil Yates and family
Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. Xx

Condolences to the entire family. I worked with Ray at Lloyds Bank and he was a true gent. I will always remember his dry humour and ability to make us smile. Sleep tight Ray. xx
