Patricia Anne St. John (Pip)
Pip passed away peacefully at home on 29th July 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was the dearly loved mum of Rob, Sam and Katie, much loved ‘Marmar’ to Eily, and beloved mum to her two cats Balos and Dylan.
Pip was a gifted communicator and educator who through her work helped thousands of children to read, write and speak.
Originally trained as a geography teacher at the University of Reading, Pip became interested in helping children with learning difficulties or disabilities, and gained decades of experience teaching and advising, both in mainstream and specialist schools across the North West.
In 2010 she used her experiences as the basis of an MSc in Language and Communication Impairment at the University of Sheffield, for which she received a distinction. In 2018, Pip was awarded the prestigious Communication Champion of the Year Award at the national Shine a Light Awards. This award recognised her hugely influential work with children with learning difficulties.
Pip was also a much-loved mentor and tutor to numerous adults and children, with her kitchen table rarely empty as generations of people have been guided and encouraged (and well fed) through degrees, job applications, personal statements, long division and times tables, map route plotting, nail colour choices, breakups, finger painting, teepee construction, and, of course… knitting and nattering.
Family flowers only please and donations in memory of Pip to Look Good…Feel Better UK.
Please wear bright colours and if you have a favourite photograph of Pip, please bring it along with you to the celebration of life ceremony at Mitton Hall so that it can be shared with her family and friends.
