Olwyn Fairley

Peacefully at Royal Blackburn Hospital on 13th April 2020, Olwyn aged 75 years of Accrington. The devoted and much loved wife of Alan, loved step-mum of Susan, dear sister of Elaine and a adored relative and friend to many.

Born 6th October 1944 in Exchange Street, Accrington, to working parents who ran a local coal / haulage business. The elder of two sisters. Olwyn and Elaine grew up together not always seeing eye to eye but for the last 30 years have been solid, loving friends and companions.

Olwyn always lived locally but 40 years ago she moved to Pickup Street, in Accrington, where she met her husband Alan, got married and settled down there. While Olwyn had no children of her own she became stepmother to Alan’s children Susan & Steven. Olwyn always worked locally, where she made many friends and was well known in the community. Olwyn was a happy soul. Always good fun and had a wicked sense of humour. At home Olwyn loved her little dogs. They were such an important part of her life for many years.

While Alan was not a travelling man, Olwyn fulfilled her travel dreams with her sister Elaine and brother-in-law Allan, as well as with her 2 nieces Loraine and Anne. She made a number of memorable trips, including visits to Canada & Alaska, USA & Gracelands, Egypt, Marrakech, the United Arab Emirates and many places around Europe. Olwyn’s real love was their holiday home in Annan, Scotland where they had a static caravan for the last 20 years. Olwyn and Alan went there every Spring and would stay until the Autumn.

Much of Olwyn’s social life was there. Spending time with her friends and walking her dog. She ran crocheting classes and donated her beautiful creations for sales and raffles to support the North West Air Ambulance, helping to raise hundreds of pounds. All round Olwyn was a beautiful, caring person. A loving wife to Alan, stepmother to Susan, loving sister to Elaine & husband Allan, doting Auntie Bobo to Loraine, David, Anne & Lee and their families.

Rest in peace Olwyn for a job well done.
