Mildred Bertwistle

Peacefully in the loving care of Ashmeade Care Home on 20th January 2021, Mildred aged 89 years of Simonstone. The dearly loved wife of the late Gordon, loving mum of Sue and Cath, very dear mother-in-law of David and the late Philip, devoted grandma of Philip, Andrew and Emma and great-grandma of Charlie.

Born in Clayton-le-Moors, Mildred spent her working life as a devoted teacher working in several local schools in Accrington, Padiham and Clitheroe, she loved her work and always had the children’s full attention with her amazing story telling abilities. She was a doting grandma to her grandchildren and loved to spoil them at any given chance. She was a wonderful baker and the family always looked forward to her baked treats and her homemade blackcurrant pie was a firm favourite. Mildred also enjoyed reading, knitting and she was a keen genealogist. A committed Christian, Mildred attended All Saints in her younger years and then St Leonard’s, Padiham, in her later years she has been a regular attendee at St James’ Church, Altham.
