Maureen Dorothy Edith Harrison

Peacefully at her home, with her husband at her side on 15th December 2022, Maureen, aged 77 of Whalley, formerly of Great Harwood. The devoted and much loved wife of David, adored and loving mum of Janet and Jonathan, dear mother-in-law of Gez and Rachel, cherished nana of Hannah, dear sister of Michael and Marian and a loved relative and friend to many.

Maureen was such a caring and considerate person who spent her life giving to others. She was a life long respected member of St Bartholomew’s Church in Great Harwood, serving as a pastoral visitor and branch leader of the Mother’s Union. Family and friends were the centre of Maureen’s world and she loved nothing more than spending time with those she loved and cared for, sharing many wonderful times enjoying meals out and holidays. Over the years Maureen enjoyed travelling, including visits to South Africa, New Zealand and America, but her favourite destination was France.

She spent her working life in education, initially as a primary school teacher at St Peter’s Primary School in Accrington, then Hippings Methodist Primary School in Oswaldtwistle and St Bartholomew’s Primary School in Great Harwood. Later Maureen became a Senior Lecturer and course leader in education at St Martin’s College, Lancaster, training teachers. Maureen will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all her family and friends.

David Midwinter

I worked with Maureen at St Martin’s College / University of Cumbria for many years. She was a great colleague. She was always smiling and was such a kind and caring person. Her love for the students was evident and she inspired many student teachers. Her influence will have benefited hundreds, maybe thousands of children over the years and that is a great legacy.

Ian and Jennifer

Lots of very happy memories of time spent with Maureen, our most sincere condolences to you all.
