Maureen Cunliffe

Well loved and respected youth and community worker

Maureen Cunliffe, 76, of Accrington, Lancashire, passed away peacefully in hospital on the 31st August 2018. Maureen will be forever lovingly remembered by her husband Roger and their children David and Michael, daughters in law Vera and Steph, her grandchildren, Jayden, Bobby, Joey and Jessica, her sister Jean and brother in law Harry and as Aunty Mo by Kirstie, Paul, Sophie, Joshua and Luca.

Maureen was one of the first female Fire Officers in Accrington, serving on the force for a number of years. After leaving the fire service she became a mother and youth and community worker, running the youth clubs in Clayton-le-Moors and Oswaldtwistle. She then moved on to run the Primetime Community Centre in Rishton where she helped children and adults many with learning difficulties. She was well respected by colleagues and was key at securing funding to allow the centre to continue to operate.

Maureen was dynamic and reached out in compassion to others and lived according to strongly held values. She truly believed that everyone should have the opportunity to be the best they could. Maureen was very well known in Hyndburn for her tireless work to help people with learning disabilities and proudly attended Manchester Metropolitan University graduating with a diploma in Youth and Community Studies.

Maureen loved plants and nature and in her retirement she volunteered as an Information Officer at Wycoller Country Park and also at Foxhill Bank.

She will be remembered for her commitment and dedication in making lives better for all those around her.
