Maureen Anne Lawless

Maureen sadly passed away on 26th November, 2023 following a terminal Cancer diagnosis this summer. Maureen, aged 78 of Great Harwood was a devoted wife to her husband Brian (deceased) and a loving mum to Peter (deceased) and Darran. Maureen was one of 4 children with 3 younger brothers, Peter, David and Martin. She grew up and went to school in Blackburn and began her working career in the travel industry where she met Brian and married when just 21. Whilst bringing up family in Great Harwood, she also worked for many years in a long established travel agents in the town and quickly established a loyal and grateful customer base with many becoming lifelong friends.

Maureen was a lovely and caring lady with good humour and compassion who took great pride in her extended family and always greeted people with a smile. She loved her boys and supported them throughout their lives including their school and sport activities, accompanying them to many a wet and windy sports field throughout the years. With work and family, she travelled the world but was always happiest at home with family, friends and neighbours. She was especially proud of the house and garden she created and cared for with Brian within an area she lived for over 50 years. Maureen regularly helped out with national charities such as Barnardo’s, RNIB and local organisations such as the Gt Harwood Mothers, Bank Mill and Churchfield House as well as Gt Harwood Cricket Club and St Huberts. In all these activities, she formed lifelong friendships which she thoroughly enjoyed and cherished. She especially loved interacting with young children of both family and friends and was at her happiest talking and making them feel special. She was a devoted wife and mother with so much love and kindness for others and will be remembered as a highly regarded friend by so many people.
