Mary Rowena Theresa Seed (Rowena)

Peacefully at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday 23rd April 2020, Rowena aged 85 years. The devoted wife of the late Brian Seed and much loved mother of Vanessa, Gary and Robin, mother in law to Dewi and Pam, Grandma and Granny to Tamara, Filipe, Nadhia, Sasha and Kayden and Great Grandma to Indiana and adored relative and friend to many.

Rowena was born on 2 September 1934 in Dalkey, nr Dublin Ireland,

She came to the UK to train as a State Registered Nurse where she met Brian, they married and had two of their three children. They lived in various places in the UK before they left for a life in the Far East. It was in Hong Kong they had their third child Robin. They settled in Hong Kong where they lived for many years.

Rowena worked for the Red Cross in Hong Kong until she retired. Living in a multi cultural place Rowena had many loving friends and companions from around the globe.

Devoting her life to caring for others; Rowena was known as a very thoughtful, independent, beautiful woman who always put others before herself.

She travelled the world to visit her family in Indonesia, UK, Ireland and Portugal.. She would make the journey most years until the long journey became just too much.

She loved to visit Singapore with dear friend Wendy of which she shared many memories.

Much of Rowena’s social life was enjoyed spending time with her many friends from Claire’s fundraising for Saint John’s Cathedral in Hong Kong, she donated her knitting for sales and raffles to support the Cathedral, helping to raise hundreds of dollars.

In November 2018 Rowena returned to live in the UK to spend time with family and friends.

She will be missed dearly by so many, but she will forever be in our hearts.  Rest in eternal peace lovely lady.

We are SO sorry to hear of Rowena’s death and at such a difficult time too. We became friends with her when our daughter was in the same class as Robin at Beacon Hill School but our friendship deepened with our interest at the Hong Kong Cathedral, especially CLARES and we visited them when they moved to the island. We remember the support she gave your dad with his clockmaking. After we left Hong Kong, I used to catch up with Rowena at the CLARES reunions here in the UK and we always made a beeline for each other and had a good natter and a catch up. So many happy memories of school and church events which Rowena was such a part of. The words independent, thoughtful and beautiful could not be more fitting for her. I would add loyal, compassionate and caring. I wish we had a magic wand to take away some of your, her families, pain at the loss of Rowena. As a family we can only say that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless.
