Mary Evelyn Farrer

On 16th September 2021 suddenly but peacefully at her home, Mary aged 78 years of Huncoat. The dearly loved wife of the late Sutton, much loved mum of Rick, Graham and Matt, dear mother in law of Julie and loving grandma of Chloe and Ben.

In her younger years Mary worked for the Health Service and then devoted her life to the care and welfare of Labrador dogs. She was a passionate lover of all dogs and worked as a volunteer for Burnley Dog Rescue. She and Sutton bred Labradors for several years and Mary was in her element surrounded with so many dogs. She adored them all.  Many happy hours were spent outdoors with the dogs and meeting friends. Mary was a well known and popular face in Huncoat and loved to stop and chat with other dog walkers and exchange their dog stories. She kept herself active and drove to Cornwall in her 70’s with her best friend Pat. She and Pat often took their dogs to holidays cottages around the UK. Mary loved driving. Mary had been a super baker and her family adored her pies and cakes. She also loved the songs of Cliff Richard and had seen him several times in concert. A keen gardener, she had the most beautiful garden. Green fingered and naturally gifted, she could grow flowers from nothing. Throughout the summer months, her garden was a haven of colour. Mary was a loving and much loved family lady and friend and will be remembered for her loyalty, passion and care for the people and dogs she loved so much.

Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Mary are being gratefully received on behalf of Labrador Rescue NW Area via the blue donate button at the end of this page.

Mary’s Obituary is so lovely and describes her love of dogs and her beautiful garden so well. I always told her she had a look of Vera Lynn.

We are so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She and Sutton were lovely neighbours when they lived on Lodgeside. I kept in touch with Mary at Christmas time and enjoyed a catch up when I delivered a Christmas card. I will remember her always walking her beloved labradors.
