Mark was born in Blackburn, later moving to Barnoldswick.
Mark was originally in the armed forces during the Gulf War and also in Bosnia before later being stationed in Germany. In his later working life Mark worked as an insurance salesman for many years.
Mark enjoyed going to see Blackburn Rovers and was very keen on Cars and Motorcycles.
Mark was always bubbly, loved by all, and who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Very fond memories working with Mark. A truly dear friend and will be sadly missed. Rest easy Mark. You’re at peace now x peace Paul (Clukey) Langers! Truly one of a kind. You always made me smile and usually roar with laughter! You would help anyone any where any time Mark Whelan Been 40 years since we stood in blackburn army careers office together. Good times and hard times, we shared a lot of them. Sad to know youve gone lil. Try not to cause too much chaos x Joanne Matheson Growing up was full of adventures and never a dull moment for my brother Paul and I up at the farm, we spent a lot of time with Mark and our other cousins due to our strong family connections more than most, he was just like a brother to me. Our mums were sisters and our dads were brothers, we would spend most of our weekends and school holidays together, when we had to leave we would conjure up schemes to prolong the inevitable, Mark was the one full of great ideas one being putting a banana into my dads exhaust, we thought it was genius but couldn’t be said for the grown ups. I remember going to the farm one day and was told that they had just got a sheep called Bert, it was a female who would just walk into the lounge, Mark said to me that I should stroke it to which I did, he didn’t tell me that it was a nasty piece of work who had a unhealthy hatred for females in the human variety, being chased and tupped, running for dear life wasn’t what I was expecting! These were the type of things Mark loved to do, anything for a laugh but you couldn’t be annoyed with him, his infectious smile got him off most of his pranks. Now I live in Cumbria I would often see Mark on his bike as he loved to ride through Kirkby Stephen, before I saw him I would hear him shouting ‘little cuz’ I would then see that gorgeous smile with that twinkle in his eye followed by a hug which he gave the best ever. He had a soft spot for my girls and they to him, he always made them laugh they used to call him Uncle funny Mark which was quite appropriate, always full of fun and laughter. We will all miss you so so much Mark, you were one of the best, taken away from us far too soon. You are now with your loved ones who have preceded us. Thank you Mark for all the wonderful memories we have shared and will continue making more when we meet again! Joanne xxxx
