Marjorie Anna Higgins neè Agustus

Please pray for the Repose of the Soul of Marjorie, who passed away peacefully following a brave two year battle with cancer on 4th March 2020 aged 75 years and of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted and much loved Wife of Allan, loving Mum of Julie and Andrew, dear Mother-in-law of Melanie and Andy, cherished Grandma of Jacob, Lucian and Olivia.

Marjorie was born in Cairo, Egypt and was of mixed race, her father being of Anglo-Indian and Portuguese descent and her mother of Spanish and Turkish. She was born in a military hospital and this attained British Nationality, as a British subject born outside the UK.

She came to England with her parents and brother Joe in 1949 and settled in Anlaby, near Hull, schooled in Hessle until she was 16 years old. She started to work as a clerk in an Estate Agency until she married. She met Allan playing mixed hockey and was wed in 1968 and immediately moved to Nelson in Mid-Glamorgan, where their children, Julie and Andrew were born. In 1976 the family returned to East Yorkshire until 1982 when they came to Clayton-le-Moors and have been here ever since.

Whilst in Lancashire she held several secretarial positions, in the brewing industry and finally retiring from McKiernan’s in Accrington in 2007.

Marjorie made many friends over the years in Hyndburn and through the country by accompanying Allan in the bowling fraternity and with Grange Bowling Club.

She will be missed by many, but remembered for her kindness, generosity and her beautiful smile.

Rest In Peace.

Family flowers only please, Donations are being received in memory of Marjorie on behalf of Cancer Research UK.
