Margaret Brierley – nee Cunliffe

Margaret died peacefully at home on 3 January, 2023 aged 101 years.Beloved wife of the late Bob, much loved mother to Anthony and John, mother-in-law to Gail and Liz, gran to Gemma, Edd, Hannah, Richard and Andrew, great gran to Annabelle, Thomas and Louis.

Margaret was a remarkable lady.  Born and bred in Accrington, the eldest of three children, she went to school locally then commenced nursing & physiotherapy training at Manchester Royal Hospital. During the war she cared for injured soldiers at Preston Royal.  Shortly afterwards she transferred to Blackburn to continue nursing where she met Bob, her future husband.  She supported Bob in his business endeavours, setting up Brierley’s of Blackburn and raising a family. After Bob’s untimely death in 1969, Margaret ran the childrens clothing business herself. Always with a twinkle in her eye, Margaret had a zest for living, an immense determination and a positive attitude.  She lived a full, independent life travelling widely, surrounded by family and a wide circle of friends of all ages.  She was a wonderful cook and loved eating out along with a glass of red wine.  Margaret lived in the family home for 75 years and drove her car till the age of 97!  She was a tower of strength to those who knew her and leaves a huge gap in all our lives.

Donations in memory of Margaret are being gratefully received on behalf of RNLI via the donate button at the foot of this page.
