Katherine Margaret Barnes

Suddenly at her beloved home on 9th September 2019 Katherine aged 80 years of Great Harwood. The devoted and loving wife of the late Alan, loved sister of John, dear auntie of Timothy, Sarah, Olivia, Alan, Gary, Andrea, Mark and Karl, Katherine also leaves her loyal and good friend Michael and other relatives and many friends.

Katherine was the ‘Queen of Clayton’ serving the local community for over fifty years with her fresh produce from her shop on Whalley Road, she always had a smile for every customer that came through the door and she never forgot anyone. She was like the local agony aunt and was always had time for a natter. She truly was one of the old school generation who believed it was her role to serve society, with her hardworking ethos Kath never missed a days work, each morning the shop would be open with her fruit and vegetables displayed to perfection ready to serve her loyal customers and following a long day in the shop, Katherine would return home to her beloved farm where she would continue to work late in to the evening, whether out in the fields caring for the animals, keeping her beloved home in tip top condition or in the kitchen cooking up on of her delicious meals or baking one of her legendary cakes.  A true Royalist she loved the Royal family and her portrait of HM The Queen had pride of place in her living room.

Katherine was a much loved pillar of the local community who will be fondly remembered.

Family flowers only please donations may be made in Katherine’s memory  on behalf of North West Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support .
