Memorial Book

Embraced by the love of her daughter, Judith of Lostock Hall passed away peacefully at the age of 78.

Beloved daughter of the late Harry and Mona, Judith was a much loved and devoted mum to Fiona and Darren, mother of Wayne, fondly remembered by Tony her former husband and friend, ex wife to Martin. A proud and cherished grandmother, she was ‘Nan’ to Emma and ‘Nanna Smoo’ to Sienna. Judith was a much loved mum in law to Jon and Thalia, a dear sister to Margaret, and is reunited now with her late brother Brian.

Judith led a vibrant life, working as a landlady in pubs across the country, where her warm yet spirited personality left a lasting impression on those she met. She had a cheeky sense of humour and was known for always speaking her mind.

Family and friends will fondly remember Judith’s legendary buffets, no one could quite understand how she managed to put together such a delicious spread so quickly, especially when someone was hungry. Hosting and feeding loved ones was one of her great joys.

She adored spending time with her grandchildren and treasured the regular catch ups with her dear friend Yvonne. Some of her happiest moments were spent living on her narrow boat, enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside.

In her later years, Judith found comfort and joy in the simple things, colouring books, word searches, reading, and her beloved TV soaps. She valued her own space and embraced the quiet pleasures of daily life.

Judith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Donations are being gratefully received in Judith’s memory on behalf of Dementia UK, a donation box will also be available the funeral.

  • Darren & Thalia Skelchy-Rothwelll says:

In Loving Memory of Mum (Smoo)

Smoo was a true character — full of spirit, warmth, and that unmistakable spark that made her who she was. We didn’t always see eye to eye, but there was never any doubt about the love she carried in her heart. She had a way of bringing laughter to any room and could turn even an ordinary moment into a story worth telling.

She always did what she could for me, for Thalia, and for others — quietly, selflessly, and with a heart that cared deeply. Watching her with Sienna was one of life’s greatest joys. The bond they shared was beautiful, full of love, laughter, and mischief.

Our last trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach will forever be one to remember — especially the moment we had to report to the lost children’s point to find her! That was so her — turning even chaos into a memory that still makes us smile.

You will be deeply missed, Smoo. Your stories, your laughter, and your love will stay with us always. We love you so very much — from me, Thalia, and Sienna.

Rest in peace, Smoo. We’ll carry your spirit with us always. ❤️

  • Thalia Skelchy-Rothwell says:

    Smoo… what can I say…

You welcomed me with open arms and always did what you could to make me feel included.
You had a knack for gifting us things we never really needed, but it was always clear that it was just your way of showing love.

I’ll never forget your feisty spirit and the many talks we shared, our trip to Winter Gardens, where you were adamant the young guys sitting next to us were flirting with you, and how we laughed 😂. I will remember how you faced life with strength and spirit — and keep that with me in everything I do.

You weren’t always easy but you were ours 💕

    Thalia x

  • Jon Taylor says:

    Remembering you, Judy ❤️.
I knew you for 42 years and have been your son in law for 26 years and can honestly say we never had a wrong word.
I remember going to Cornwall, you in your caravan and us in our tent. I thought how funny it would be to throw bread on the caravan roof at 6am every day, so I did. The seagulls came on mass, tap dancing and screeching their heads off, it drove you mad and you couldn’t understand what they were attracted to 🤣🤣🤣. I owned up to it at the end of the holiday and your face was a picture 🥰.
You were a sparkly, lovely, live wire .
Remembering your kindness, our laughs and the cheeky twinkle in your eyes.
Rest in eternal peace dear mum in law.
    Love you always
    Jon 😘😘❤️❤️ xxxx

  • Mike says:

    Jude
Funny, kind , caring, loving and the list goes on. And on.
We was lucky enough to spend many a Christmas and holidays with Jude and what great times they were., we will never forget .
Jude’s hospitality was ledgendary as was her zest for fun and laughter .
But did you know that she could run!!
Yep I saw it with my own two eyes, whilst on holiday in Tenerife with Jude , we was both bored by the pool so went for a stroll.
After getting acosted by the time share for the umpteenth time I decided to pretend I couldn’t speak English much to Jude’s great delight..
The time share rep asked if I could speak English so I mumbled not very well and they asked if Jude was my wife and could she speak English.
I told them “she speak no English but is good with plow”
At which point Jude screamed and took off running laughing and arms flailing as she went.
When I finally caught up she was bent double laughing and gasping for breath all at the same time and she laughed all the way back to the hotel.
That’s how I will remember Jude, laughing and enjoying life.
In all of space and all of time we got to be here at the same time as Jude.
    “Wasn’t we lucky”

In Loving Memory of Judith (“Smooo”)

You always welcomed us with open arms , your home was our home, and you treated us all as part of your family.

You had such a kind and caring heart. I’ll never forget how you made sure Helen was looked after while I was in Afghanistan, even though you didn’t know her, that simple act of kindness truly reflected the wonderful person you were.

    Rest peacefully, Smooo.

    Phil

    To Gangster Nanna Smoo,

    I love you ❤️

I have so many funny memories of you like when we went to the dog cafe and you accidentally put salt in your tea 🤣. My favorite one was when we went to the theme park and you bought me and Evia Wallace and Gromit teddies.

    Lots of love Sienna

P.S. I will miss you so much

  • Ashley says:

    Dear Smoo,

What a wonderful woman you were. From the very first day I met you, you welcomed me into your family and treated me like your own son. I’ll always cherish those Tuesday evenings when you would cook tea for me and Daz, especially those incredible roast potatoes and the cupboard full of mint sauce you always kept for him.

Your kindness and generosity with your love were unmatched. You brought so much joy and laughter to our lives, especially when you were with Daz, me, and the boys.

You will be deeply missed. I promise to look out for Daz and be there for him whenever he needs me.

Rest in peace, Smoo. Until we meet again, love always,

    Ash

    To Judith,
You’d hate to be remembered as a “sweet” lady so I’ll say it as it is –
Crazy, fabulous, fun, laughter, loving, caring and the best friend my mum could ever have had.
I remember us going on holiday where I broke my toe, I spent the rest of the holiday having to wear your “bright cerise pink shoes” as I couldn’t get my foot in mine.
Pasta nights ! Parties! Christmas ! & holidays full of fun because of you.
You were one of a kind
    No other to be found.
    Rest in peace Judith
With Love and will remember you always.
    Gaynor xx

It was a privilege to know Judey. She had such a warm, joyful and kind presence and was generous to a fault, she never forgot a birthday or Christmas.
The way she supported my mum during her cancer recovery is something I will always love and admire her for.
Her love for her family and friends was always so evident, and the way she cared for Emma and Sienna as a grandparent was beautiful to see.

What a beautiful send-off we had for Mum. The day was filled with so many people whose lives she had touched, and hearing all the wonderful stories about her, some we’d never even heard before, was truly special. It was a day full of love, laughter, and memories that showed just how deeply she was loved by everyone.

A big heartfelt thank you to everyone who made her send-off so special, it meant the world.

Rest in peace, Smoo. We all miss you already ❤️ xx.
