Joyce Shackleton

Peacefully in hospital with her family by her side on 18th November 2023, Joyce aged 87 years of Great Harwood. The devoted wife of the late Peter, loved mum of Ian and the late Neil, dear mother-in-law of Kath and a respected relative and friend.

Joyce spent her working life teaching in primary schools within the Hyndburn area including Moor End, Oswaldtwistle and Western County, Great Harwood, she was passionate about her work and devoted herself to her pupils, leaving a lasting impression on many of those fortunate to taught by her. Always one to take great pride in her appearance, wherever Joyce went she was always immaculately presented with her styled to perfection and her makeup perfectly applied. She adored travel and following her retirement, Joyce along with her beloved husband Peter set out on a life on the seas enjoying many wonderful cruises, visiting many parts of the world and she would always look forward to sitting at the captains table.

So sad today to hear the news about Mrs. Shackleton’s passing. I was very fortunate to have been one of her pupils at Western County Primary School. I recently met with her and had some lovely long chats. A very well respected lady. Rest in eternal peace. Sincere condolences to the family.

Sad news. Joyce was such a lovely person. She was a life-long friend to my late Mum, Maureen, and I loved to hear them reminiscing about their days as young women training for their careers working with children. Joyce rests now having known that in life she made an enormous positive difference to so many. With sincere condolences to Peter, Ian and to Joyce’s many dear friends.
