The service to celebrate John's life will be held at St Michael's Parish Church, Forest of Bowland, Whitewell, BB7 3AT
John Wolstenholme
On 21st July 2019 peacefully in hospital, John aged 86 years of Cowark, Whitewell. The dearly loved husband of Sylvia, much loved father of Leslie, Roger, Andrea and Boris, also a much loved father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather.
John , the son of a master baker and youngest of 3 brothers was born in 1932 in Rishton, Lancs.
John met his wife Sylvia in 1955 whilst in the Lancashire Regiment where he was a small arms instructor .
He was trained as a quantity surveyor and worked with his brother Tom for many years in the building trade. Following the death of his brother, John turned his creative and entrepreneurial mind to his own business venture where he built and started Westwood Garage in Rishton.
John was a great lover of food and wine and loved nothing more than gathering his friends and family together. He was passionate about the countryside, his local community and sport. He was Chairman of Rishton Cricket Club, he loved horse racing and shooting where he worked hard to revive the Whitewell shoot. He was never happier than when he was walking and shooting in the beautiful Valley at Whitewell where he lived for more than 30 years.
John’s charisma, generosity of spirit and love of life will be cherished forever by his family and friends. His family all had much to learn from him and for this they are truly grateful.
