John Cunliffe ‘John Legs’

On 27th May 2020 peacefully in hospital, John (John Legs) aged 82 years of Accrington. The dearly loved husband of the late Irene, much loved Dad of Janet, Peter and the late Andrew, loving grandad of Brent, Peter John & Benjamin, great grandad of James, Beatrice, Kenzie, Carson, Jasper, Jenson & Lennox John also a dear brother to the late Trevor.

John completed his engineering apprenticeship with Howard & Bullough and then served with the Merchant Navy for 7 years. He returned to engineering and worked for various firms travelling the world installing machinery. He always brought home a souvenir from each destination. When son Peter left school, he began his working life with his Dad. At The Arden pub, John was a very well known face where everyone knew him as ‘John Legs’. He had been an avid darts player in his younger years and then played pool for the Arden for many years. He enjoyed a little flutter on the horses and had been the most passionate Star Trek fan with a prized collection of  81 spaceships. A Liverpool fan through and through, a highlight of John’s life was his 80th birthday treat from his family – an executive tour at Anfield, meeting former players and having a meal. A wonderful and most memorable experience for John. Following his retirement, he loved nothing better than being able to spend more time with his much adored family.
