John Charles Butterfield

On 12th February, 2024 peacefully in The Hospice with his loving family by his side, John, aged 81 years of Clayton-le-Moors. The dearly loved and loving husband of Sylvia, much loved dad of Antony and Jacqueline, loving grandad of Paul, Ella and Will, loving great grandad of Alfie, dear brother of Janet, dear brother in law of Yani and a dear uncle of Georgia and Thanesis and great uncle of Alexandros.

John had a colourful working life with various jobs which included weaving, window cleaning and paint spraying aircraft. Holidays were always in their adored touring caravan and John’s favourite destination was Llandudno. Another favourite place for John was Accrington Library where he could indulge his great love of books, particularly enjoying a good crime or grisly novel. He also enjoyed walking and swimming. John was gifted with a great sense of humour and was naturally funny. First and foremost in his life were his family, and John always remained close to his sister Janet. He was an animal lover at heart and John and his Ginger Tom, Charlie adored one another. John also loved his daughter’s Labradors and walking with them too. There was much tail wagging when Jacqueline would tell them that grandad John was coming to visit. John was selfless and unassuming, a lovely gentleman who loved his family and his home. It was special to celebrate 62 happy years of marriage to Sylvia, last July. He lived a great life rich in shared love and experiences.
