John Calkeld Whitehead (Bonce)

On 2nd July 2020 suddenly following a short illness, John, aged 66 years of Clitheroe. The much loved and loving dad of Hannah (Baby Bonce) and dearly loved brother of Anne and brother in law of Stephen. John was loved and will be missed by all his family. A devoted and excellent Police Officer who had served for over 36 years with Lancashire Constabulary, following his graduation in 1975, John adored his job and would leave no stone unturned in his quest to solve a crime. John worked in CID and was popular and respected by colleagues and the communities in which he worked. Leading up to his retirement, he served as Evidence Exhibits Officer. He then delivered the prescriptions for Lloyds Pharmacy and made many friends along the way. Always kind, always fair, John had time for everyone and enjoyed being in company. He also loved his sports and played to a good standard in cricket, darts, pool and dominoes – practically everything but rugby, which he said was far too physical for him. John had been well known for his footballing skills over the years, and following his retirement, loved nothing more than to indulge in his love of golfing, fishing and going to the races.  Another great hobby was decorating, and he and his great friend Ian Welsh would put their decorating skills to good use for their family and friends. 

John will be remembered for being an excellent police officer and a warm and lovely man.
